Welcome to my favourite sport – Underwater Swimming
Since the opening of this site back in October 2001 – when it was called “Underwater Aerobics with Gina” I have been very pleasantly surprised at the level of interest shown in this wonderful and fascinating form of swimming.
Having introduced the sport as a form of underwater aerobics, which mainly is a pool based activity (which incorporates basic synchronised swimming skills), I have gone on to show, that by developing your underwater skills, you can perform a wide range of different forms of underwater swimming – especially if you have access to the clear warm waters you have in locations such as the Caribbean or the Mediterranean.
As I have said before – if you find that lap/length swimming can get a bit boring (although an excellent way of getting fit and building aquatic confidence) – then why not try out the very different forms of underwater activity you can perform – from underwater aerobics and underwater ballet through to scuba diving, snorkel diving, monofinning, to freediving and much more - all of which can be enjoyed in the open sea.
Underwater swimming can be performed by all ages, shapes and sizes – the sport is carried in a weightless environment. You don’t have to be an Olympic swimmer but you do need to be a reasonable swimmer and above all be confident and relaxed underwater. As with all water based sports, safety is paramount. Never swim alone, always swim with a partner who is also an accomplished swimmer – build up the time you spend underwater slowly – and most crucial of all, never hyperventilate. If you feel tired, as in all physical activities, rest, recover or finish the session.
By way of introduction to the various styles of underwater swimming you can enjoy – I have produced 2 videos.
“ Underwater Swimming – an Ocean Adventure with Gina” - my new sea based video and
“Underwater Aerobics with Gina” my original pool based video.
The PRODUCTS page gives a more detailed breakdown of their contents
Please look at the other pages which includes more information about the videos and how to buy them and other items of interest – such as training exercises and confidence building in underwater swimming.
